Is this valid permanently?
It is not valid permanently. The EFR certificate is valid for 24 months (2 years). Upon expiry: you need to take the EFR refresher course (about half a day). After updating your skills, a new 2‑year valid certificate will be issued.
Why is there an expiry period?
First‑aid skills (especially CPR) can fade without regular practice. Periodic refresher training ensures standard and proficient performance.
